The Municipality of Lecce embarked on a major digital transformation programme to provide citizens with a more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly online experience, fully aligned with the guidelines of the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID).
The project included a complete upgrade of the Progress Sitefinity platform and a redesign of the institutional portal’s information architecture. Sitefinity’s advanced features enabled the introduction of multisite management, tailored editorial workflows, and a role-based permissions system involving more than 15 municipal departments and offices. This made content publishing faster, more coordinated, and more widely distributed across the organization, while reducing operational bottlenecks.
The new portal was also integrated with a range of external services and platforms, including analytics tools, digital communication channels, and internal municipal applications. These integrations made it possible to monitor performance and user engagement more effectively.
Particular attention was given to accessibility, mobile usability, and content organization, making public information easier to find and access for all users.
The project received international recognition when the Municipality of Lecce portal was named “Website of the Year 2018” in the Public Sector category by Progress Sitefinity, recognizing it as the leading public-sector website built on the platform worldwide.
